How Often Should You Detox Your Scalp? (Based on Your Scalp Type)

Healthy hair always starts at the scalp.

But while most people focus on masks, oils and styling products for the lengths of their hair, the scalp itself is often overlooked until problems start showing up, oiliness, flakes, irritation, discomfort or dull, heavy hair.

At Cascata, we believe scalp care should be treated the same way we now approach skincare. It’s not just about treating problems when they appear, it’s about prevention, balance, and maintaining a healthy scalp environment long term.

And one of the biggest questions I get asked all the time is: How often should you detox your scalp?

The answer isn’t the same for everyone.

It depends on your scalp type, lifestyle, product usage, and how your scalp behaves day to day. Because scalp health is never one-size-fits-all.

What Is a Scalp Detox? A scalp detox is the process of deeply cleansing the scalp to remove:  -

  • Product build-up

  • Excess oil and sebum

  • Sweat and pollution

  • Dead skin cells

  • Dry or oily flakes

  • Residue sitting on the scalp and through the hair

It also helps stimulate the hair follicle by creating a cleaner, healthier scalp environment, supporting stronger, healthier-looking hair over time.

Over time, build-up can block follicles, disrupt the scalp barrier, and throw the scalp completely out of balance.

At Cascata, this is exactly why we created Detox + Restore. Not just as an exfoliating shampoo but as a multifunctional preventative product designed to support long-term scalp health. Because if follicles remain congested over time, it can contribute to ongoing scalp imbalance, irritation, sensitivity, and other scalp concerns later on.
Our whole philosophy is about prevention first

Because healthy hair isn’t a trend. It starts at the scalp … and that’s where we begin.
